Review of fencer in Werrington, Peterborough

Review Date:

Summary:

Neil replaced the fence between our house and our neighbours house.

Neil also carried out a couple of additional jobs. He fixed our back gate, and fixed a broken drawer in the kitchen.

Comments:

Neil was very thorough when quoting for the job. He spent time with both my neighbour and myself, and made it clear what the job entailed. The quote given was clear and precise.

Neil arrived on time on both days and carried out the work to the highest standard. Even though the weather was very wet, Neil completed the fence ahead of schedule and we were very pleased with the finished job.

Neil was very tidy and left the garden in very good condition.

Neil also fixed our back gate, and fixed a broken drawer in the kitchen, that we thought could not be repaired.

Overall I was very pleased with the work done, and will use Neil again in the future. I would definitely recommend Neil to others, as his quality of work is excellent.

Summary:

Weatherproofed garden fences.

Comments:

Neil was friendly, helpful and considerate.

He brought 2 colours of "paint" for me to choose between and returned the one I didn't want.

He was aware of the parking problems in the road and moved his van, when I asked, to avoid parking ouside a neighbour's house.

He also returned a few days later to repair my gate.

New fence.

Comments:

Neil approached the job in a very professional manner.

His work was top quality and at no time did I feel he was trying to do unnecessary work as can happen with workmen - and increase the price!

His charges for the job were fair. He arrived on time and the work was completed on time.

I would have no second thoughts in using Neil again or recommending him to anyone who needs a good, quality fence!

He came to look at the job before giving a quote - not all Fence companies do! He also explained clearly what would be best for me and not just what would cost the most!

First class job by a very good company!!eil uses top quality products which are reflected in the good quality and finish of his work!

Summary:

Demolish a brick boundary wall (approx 7.5 tonnes of bricks!), erect a new fence and construct and install a front gate.

Comments:

We approached a number of builders for quotes but Neil came back with the most professional and detailed one with a reasonable charge too.

It took us months to obtain planning permission and Neil encouraged us to have everything checked out – we are very grateful for his patience and the suggestions he gave us during the ‘waiting game’.

Once the works started we couldn’t believe our luck – both Neil and his helpers –Jack and Josh were always on time, working really hard every day – even in the pouring rain. Throughout the work, Neil always took our comments on board and kept a close eye on the details. The job appeared more complex than we originally thought due to the amount of concrete foundations under the old wall that needed to be dug out for the new concrete posts but the quality of finish is remarkable. We are now proud owners of a beautiful timber fence with concrete posts and custom build front gate!

Neil has handled the job really well – from ordering materials and the skip, taking deliveries and building the fence - we could not have asked for more. He came up with a number of suggestions along the way too which were really valuable and even saved us some money!

Needless to say, we would and will recommend Neil to our friends in the future – we are currently waiting for a quote for the back gate as well!

Summary:

1. Replace broken fence post and refit poorly fitted gate

2. Repanel and realign another gate

3. Re-nail approx. 20m of fence panels to close gaps that had formed

4. Remove bushes and weeds and re-lay gravel over front garden

Comments:

I had part of my front garden re-landscaped some months ago by a tree surgeon and garden landscaping firm, and as part of the job they also replaced an end fence panel with a gate to enable me to move my wheelie bins from my back door to the roadside more easily. Some weeks after this, heavy winds damaged the fence post supporting the gate, and it became apparent that the gate had been poorly fitted.

I called a fencing firm that I found on Safe Local Trades, and they came to look at it in my absence, and I got a phone call recommending that I call back the fitter to fix it, but it was so badly fitted that they "didn't want to touch it"!

I didn't want to call the fitter back - they were a tree surgeon firm and clearly this needed a fencing specialist. So I went back to Safe Local Trades and came across Neil Hoskin and Fence Connection. Neil came round to look at the gate on a Sunday morning after I called him on the Friday.

Neil easily evaluated the problem with the fitting, and gave me a thorough assessment of what was needed to remedy the situation - replacing the post, trimming the gate (so as to avoid having to pay for a new gate), but setting it to open inwards rather than outwards, arranging for a plumber to reposition an outside wall tap, and fitting a new latch, wallplate and gate stops.

I could tell from Neil's expertise and the photos of his work that he willingy shared that he knew what he was talking about, so I immediately spoke to him about a number of other small projects that I had in mind, listed above. Neil sent me a full written quote for the work, some of it got scrubbed off but we agreed a price and dates for the work, and Neil turned up as arranged and on time and set about working through the list of jobs that we agreed.

All of the work was completed on time and the quality was absolutely second to none. My other gate wasn't that bad before, but since Neil has re-fitted it, it now closes smoothly every time, previously we had to 'click' it shut. The broken gate now functions as a gate should, and looks much more impressive, and the bush removal and re-gravelling of the front garden has transformed a mess into an area that looks so much more classy.

I am very happy to recommend Neil for any of the work that he advertises, and I will certainly be using him again for any other similar jobs as they arise. Not only is he an expert in his field, he clearly prospers that if a job is worth doing, it's worth doing well, and the high standards that he sets himself are certainly evident in his work.

Summary:

The project was to dismantle a rotting 30 year old wooden fence, replace the 10 panels with feather board panels, concrete posts and gravel boards, and replace a small section of fence and rear access gate.

Comments:

Neil was on site bright and early on the first day – taking delivery of materials he had ordered for the project which was to dismantle a rotting 30 year old wooden fence – replacing the 10 panels with feather board panels, concrete posts and gravel boards. There was also a challenge to Neil’s ingenuity for a small section of fence and rear access gate also needed to be replaced – all linked to the main fence and to the neighbours existing gate and fence.

We had recently had a side door installed into our garage so the replacement gate needed to open outwards and thanks to his inventiveness – Neil came up with a solution that surpassed both our expectations as to how it would finally look – and by clever bespoke construction and hanging the frame first – he then over clad the hinged side with the feather boards – so to all intents and purposes it just looks like a continuous fence on our side of the property – very secure with 3 pad bolts on the inside.

The height of the fence was raised slightly to give more privacy to both us and our neighbours – and they thankfully were most co-operative allowing Neil access to both sides throughout the project. This was not without its problems as the original posts had been set in far too much concrete by the original developer that Neil had to remove first before installing the new posts.  But both he and Josh met each situation that presented itself with renewed vigour – this despite the soaring summer July temperatures they had to work in.

The quality of work done was excellent. Any problems which did arise were quickly resolved after a quick chat between me and Neil. What I really liked was that he kept me the client involved at all stages and when tweaks were needed – he did not just carry on regardless.

I would not hesitate to recommend Neil for his excellent quality of work – so much so that I have already asked him to quote for replacing our other fence which backs onto a footpath and to remove a whole row of very imposing leylandii conifers to allow us to have our garden back.

Summary:

Replace old wooden fence totallying 18 panels with new fence, concrete posts and concrete gravel boards. Make good gate that is attached to old fence.

Comments:

The fence was not straight forward as it didn't form a straight line, however, Neil and Josh were awesome. I am very particular about jobs being done correctly, but Neil was always aware of what I wanted, checked at all stages that things were going well and finished the job off to a very high standard. He and Josh cleaned up after themselves, were very aware of the impact on our neighbours and have done a brilliant job.

Others in our Lane have recently had fences repaired/erected and they have all commented on what a great job Neil has done.

Neil has already done work for my brother and I have recommended him to another friend in the Lane and to my Father-in-Law, who is having work done in September.

A thoroughly professional job - I would highly recommend him.
