Tradeframe Give Back

Safe Local Trades member Tradeframe have come to the rescue of a blind pensioner who was duped out of thousands of pounds by a rogue tradesman.

It was the vigilance of the Peterborough victim’s bank that alerted police to the high number and value of cheques being issued to conman Adam Loveridge – which included a cheque for £9,000, charged for the installation of a new front door.

Working alongside Cambridgeshire Police, Eileen Le Voi, owner of Safe Local Trades brought along a trustworthy member to evaluate the work done at the victim’s house, during the initial stages of the investigation.

Rob Butterwick of OddJobBob Ltd said: “It was immediately evident that the front door installed was not new but second-hand. It was so badly fitted that daylight could be seen around the edges and the clear glass panels offered no security or privacy for the victim. The lock from the old door had been fitted to this door and therefore there was also a worry about who had a key.”

Eileen then sent out an SOS email to Safe Local Trades members to inform them about the 69-year-old’s plight - asking if anyone had a decent second-hand door that could be fitted properly.

Quick to reply was local glazing firm Tradeframe - who responded immediately by offering to install a brand new UPVC front-door, frame and threshold, free of charge.

Eileen added: “We were extremely grateful for the generosity shown by Tradeframe, who pulled out all the stops to get a brand new front door installed as quickly as possible so that the victim could have peace of mind that she had adequate security.

“No words can describe the callousness of Adam Loveridge, who blatantly deceived his blind elderly victim and preyed on her vulnerability. She was unable to tell that the door installed was second-hand and he attempted to charge her £9,000 for it. He had already conned her out of £40,000 for work to the value of under £1,000.“
