Sue Ryder Hospice calls on community to branch out and support it's Christmas tree recycling scheme

Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough is searching for volunteers to support their annual green initiative of collecting and recycling Christmas trees in January

In return for a donation, Sue Ryder will be collecting real Christmas trees direct from people’s front door or driveway so that they can be chipped into mulch and recycled.

The Sue Ryder Christmas Tree Recycling Scheme needs as many green-fingered hands, vehicles and vans as possible to help with the collections.

Safe Local Trades member Steve Bedford of Drylining Systems (pictured above with his dog Rufus), lent his support to the scheme last year and has signed up again for 2023. Steve said: “After losing Deb, my second wife of 25 years to breast cancer, charities like Sue Ryder are close to my heart. It is great to have the opportunity to do something to help and giving up some time to collect the Christmas trees is an easy way to do this.”

Helen Kingston, Community Fundraiser from Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, said: “Joining our Treecycle collection scheme would be a great team-building activity for a local business to help beat the January blues, as well as a way for individuals or groups to give back to the community too.

“We aren’t just looking for hands-on support, we need vehicles too from vans and trailers – or even a sleigh! This green scheme will also help raise vital funds so Sue Ryder can continue offering its compassionate palliative care and bereavement support - helping its teams be there when it matters.

Details on the environmentally-friendly fundraising collection drive will be announced later this year for those who want to sign up to have their Christmas tree recycled and support Sue Ryder.
